The Crags are to get a share of a £340,000 Sport England funding pot  as part of the initiative to turn the area into a country park to help get people fit and active.

Doncaster Council has secured the ‘rejuvenation’ funding from Sport England, to be shared between 15 park areas across the borough.

And Conisbrough and Denaby have two pots of the cash – with funding for improvements to both the Crags and the old Flower Park at Denaby.

Conisbrough ward DMBC councillors Lani Mae, Nidge Ball and Ian Pearson have said that they will work closely with the Friends of The Crags, as well as local residents and groups, to direct the cash.

Led by former councillor Tony Sellars, the Friends have been instrumental in highlighting The Crags as an outstanding area of natural beauty and immense history, in the effort to make a lasting public amenity for all from an area which has been plagued by crime and anti-social behaviour.
